【丹霞書聲·第97期】Youth（青春）

Youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind,

青春不是年華，而是心境，

It is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees.

青春不是桃面、丹唇、柔膝，

it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, vigor of the emotions,

而是深沉的意志、宏偉的想象、熾熱的感情：

it is the freshness of the deep spring of life.

青春是生命的深泉在涌流。

Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity,

青春氣貫長虹，勇銳蓋過怯弱，

of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. 

進(jìn)取壓倒荀安,

This often exits in a man of 60, more than a boy of 20.

如此銳氣，二十后生而有之，六旬男子則更多見。

Nobody grows old merely by the number of years, we grow old by deserting our ideals.

年歲有加，并非垂老;理想丟棄，方墮暮年

Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.

歲月悠悠，衰微只及肌膚;熱忱拋卻，頹廢必至靈魂。

Worry, fear, self distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.

憂煩、惶恐、喪失自信 ，定使 心靈扭曲，意氣如灰。

Whether 60 or 16, there is in every human being's heart the lure of wonders，

無論年屆花甲，抑或二八芳齡，心中皆有生命之歡樂，奇跡之誘惑，

the unfailing childlike appetite of what's next and the joy of the game of living.

孩童般天真久盛不衰。

In the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station;

人人心中皆有一臺天線，

so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer,courage and power from men and from infinite，

只要你從天上人間 接受美好、希望、歡樂、勇氣和力量的信號，

So long as you are young.

你就青春永駐，風(fēng)華常存。

When the aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with the snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism,

一旦天線倒塌，銳氣被冰雪覆蓋，玩世不恭、自暴自棄油然而生，

then you've grown old, even at 20, but as long as your aerials are up, to catch waves of optimism, there's hope you may die young at 80.

即使年方二十，實(shí)已垂垂老矣;然則只要豎起天線，捕捉樂觀的信號，你就有望在八十高齡告別塵寰時仍覺得年輕。

作品介紹

《Youth（青春）》是美國作家塞繆爾·厄爾曼創(chuàng)作的一篇散文。作者從三方面展開論述：第一層詮釋青春的內(nèi)涵，暗示青春并不像人們認(rèn)為的那樣短暫易逝；第二層說明青春的實(shí)質(zhì)，并指出衰老是放棄理想而非年齡增長造成的；第三層分析如何保持青春。作者先用排比和對偶修辭增強(qiáng)論述氣勢和語言魅力，而后通過鮮明的對比，不僅使論述形象生動，而且讓道理更加明晰通透。全文充滿蓬勃的朝氣和理性的思考，圍繞怎樣認(rèn)識青春和保持青春，環(huán)環(huán)相扣，層層深入。
